Traveling In The USA With A Firearm

By: Michael L McBee

Well if you are to travel around with any weapon in the US and you do not have a concealed weapons permit, you can be in a lot of trouble. Most state have laws regarding traveling with weapons, and many require you to have a concealed weapons permit obtained by the justice department of that state in order to carry a weapon.

Even with a concealed weapons permit, you may not carry a concealed weapon in the following places:
* buildings owned or leased by the federal, state or local government
* financial institutions
* any place where alcoholic beverages are sold, dispensed and consumed
In addition, be sure to check local regulations, which may restrict carrying concealed weapons at public meetings, and in public parks and buildings.

County sheriffs can provide information on where concealed weapons are prohibited in their counties.

These state with concealed weapons laws require background checks on all applicants before an permit will be issued:
Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Georgia, Idaho, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, Indiana, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, North Carolina, Iowa, Kentucky, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah, Tennessee, Virginia, South Dakota, West Virginia, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, Louisiana, and Montana.

People who hold permits from the following states may not carry concealed weapons in Montana because their state laws do not expressly require background checks of permit applicants: Alabama, Hawaii, Kansas, New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware District of Columbia, and Rhode Island.

The following states do not issue concealed weapons permits: Illinois, Nebraska, Vermont, and Wisconsin

When traveling with weapons in the any of the above states you need to be careful, because concealed weapons permits, are not always allowed in every state just because you have one. For example, if you have your concealed weapons permit in a state that does not require a background check you will most likely not be allowed to carry in any of the state that did require the back ground check. Now this is because in the state where it was not required the same items are not met as those who do require it.

However if you have a permit from a state that does require the background check you will be able carry in states that do not require that, because your permit had higher requirements. But let me remind you that in the four states that do not issue concealed weapons permits your are not allowed to carry at all even if you have a permit from another state.
